Tala, by Lorenz Malabanan · Effective 8 October 2026

Tala has no account, no server and no tracking. What you write in Tala stays on your device, and we never see it.

What Tala keeps, and where

What Tala sends

Nothing. Tala does not send your notes, recordings or usage anywhere. It has no analytics, no advertising, no third-party tracking and no sign-in. It works with no internet connection.

The website that serves the web version is a static site. Like any web server, its host may keep ordinary request logs (such as IP address and time). Tala adds no analytics to it.

Microphone

Tala uses the microphone only while you record a lecture, after you press Record. The audio is saved on your device, next to your notes, and is never uploaded.

Backups and sharing

When you back up or export, Tala makes a file and hands it to you, through a download or your device's share sheet. Where that file goes (Files, a cloud drive, a message) is your choice. It is then handled by that service, not by Tala.

Handwriting search (optional)

An experimental setting, off by default, reads your handwriting so it can be searched. It uses your device's own handwriting recognizer, where one exists, and stores the result on your device.

Children

Tala collects no data from anyone, so it collects none from children either.

Deleting your data

Settings → Clear all data erases your library, including the app's on-device copy. Deleting the app does the same.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Questions: open an issue on GitHub.
